Red Sox dominate AL All-Star voting

New York, NY (Sports Network) - Boston Red Sox designated hitter David Ortiz, outfielder Manny Ramirez and catcher Jason Varitek currently lead the American League voting at their respective positions for the 2005 All-Star Game.

Ortiz leads all AL players on the ballot in votes received with 958,811 in the latest voting totals, which were released Monday.

Two other Red Sox are second. Bill Mueller ranks behind New York third baseman Alex Rodriguez and first baseman Kevin Millar trails Yankee Tino Martinez.

Boston centerfielder Johnny Damon is fourth among outfielders behind Ramirez, Seattle's Ichiro Suzuki and Vladimir Guerrero of the Angels.

Baltimore's Brian Roberts is the leader among second baseman over the three- time incumbent, Alfonso Soriano of the Texas Rangers. Roberts' teammate Miguel Tejada has a slight edge over New York's Derek Jeter at shortstop.

The game is scheduled for July 12 at Comerica Park in Detroit.
